Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca culture, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A fabulous pottery vessel of unique form displaying a conical body and wide, annular rim sitting upon a flared foot with a flat, circular base. Adorned in hues of burnt orange, olive green, red, ochre, cream, and black, the body of the vessel features a decorative register of 3 zoomorphs known as the humped animal form, which is related to the mythical monkey of Nazca art. A series of circle designs adorns the area around each animal, which is segregated into 3 sections via vertical stripes of a zigzag pattern. The lovely band of these curious creatures is flanked by a pair of horizontal registers below in shades of yellow and green and a zigzag motif border above. Size: 6.5" in diameter x 4.75" H (16.5 cm x 12.1 cm)
