Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca culture, ca. 250 BCE to 125 CE. A gorgeous hand-built polychrome vessel of globular form featuring mythical zoomorphic imagery beautifully delineated in a palette of red, cream, brown and white. Its highly burnished surface is decorated with a pair of flying creatures with elephant-like trunks, each of them consuming a warrior of its own with additional trophy head ornaments confined with their bodies. The vessel’s spherical body is nicely accented by a small pair of nubbin strap handles, and a stout neck painted in red. A powerful composition completed upon a traditional Nazca pottery form. Size: 8" Diameter x 8" H (20.3 cm x 20.3 cm)

Provenance: private Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA collection, acquired before 2000; ex-Arte Primitivo, New York, New York, USA
