Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Nazca, ca. 1 to 700 CE. A fabulous pottery jar decorated with an unusual figural program in shades of red, black, brown, grey, tan and white. Depicts a human figure with face in partial relief, holding two ceremonial objects or composite beings that seem to be comprised of bird feathers, five pairs of eyes and squiggles perhaps representing legs or hair. Size: 5-1/2"H (14 cm). Provenance: Ex-private Crested Butte, CO collection, acquired in 1987.
