Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast of Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel featuring well-preserved painted decorations depicting the Anthropomorphic Mythical Being (or AMB). The intriguing creature is shown pinning down a severed trophy head while sticking its lengthy tongue into its mouth, effectively drawing out that warrior's power. The AMB wears a spotted cloak lines with additional trophy heads on the fringe and tail, and below is a register of repeating stingray motifs in black and red. Size: 4.7" Diameter x 6" H (11.9 cm x 15.2 cm)

  • Condition: Repair to spout with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines; a few stable hairline fissures radiating out from breaks. Minor abrasions and nicks, with light fading to pigment, and light earthen deposits within spouts, otherwise in great condition. Great preservation to colors and motifs. Modern mounting putty beneath base.
