Description:

Pre-Columbian, south coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 to 400 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl displaying a register of abstract killer whales across the exterior walls. The vessel presents with a round but stable base, tall walls with a gently flared rim, and a deep basin covered in high burnishing marks and deep red pigment. The killer whales along the walls are each shown with dramatically curved bodies, large eyes, protruding dorsal and pelvic fins, and large, forked tails. One additional whale is shown along the base of the bowl. Size: 4.875" W x 2.6" H (12.4 cm x 6.6 cm)
