Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A delightful pottery bowl comprised of a round yet stable base and walls that swell gently outward and up to a circular rim. Both the upper portion of the exterior as well as interior of the basin are painted in a red-brown slip. The central tondo features a stylized fish painted in a dark umber hue on a beige ground. The fish exhibits a large eye, and rectangular patterns across the rotund body. The Nazca cherished the sea as a rich source of both food and mythology. Hence marine themes are prevalent on their ceramics, such as this adorable fish! Size: 7" Diameter x 2.125" H (17.8 cm x 5.4 cm)
