Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru (south coast), probably Middle Nazca, Phase 5, ca. 450 to 550 CE. A fascinating painted bowl, made to be placed into a grave, bearing repeated images of abstract trophy heads around its exterior body, painted in bright colors on a black background. The bowl is from a later period in Nazca history, when artists became more focused on abstract imagery (as opposed to the earlier period, when they focused on more naturalistic depictions). Size: 6.6" W x 3.25" H (16.8 cm x 8.3 cm)
