Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 500 CE. A lovely hand-built pottery bowl with highly burnished surfaces painted with vibrant polychrome pigments. The bowl exhibits a round but stable base beneath tall walls decorated with 17 abstract marine creatures, perhaps a native Peruvian catfish species known as Trichomycterus punctulatus. Size: 7.3" W x 3.75" H (18.5 cm x 9.5 cm)

Provenance: private Hidden Valley Lake, California, USA collection, purchased on September 26, 2019 from MBA Seattle Auction
