Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Nazca culture, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A polychrome ceramic vessel representing a fully painted human head with crescent shaped eyes adorned with rectangular painted motifs beneath the lower lid, triangular forms painted to either side of stylized, pursed red lips that are further highlighted by expressive marks perhaps indicative of the person's vocal capacities. Above this visage is a handsome headdress with abstract faces at the base of feather-like forms that appear to be fastened with pins. A beautiful example, finely modeled and painted in hues of chocolate brown, orange, cream, white, red, and grey. Size: 5" in diameter x 6" H (12.7 cm x 15.2 cm)
