Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca to Chancay culture, ca. 500 to 1400 CE. This is a stunning hand-woven textile made almost entirely from human hair- the hairs bundled together and interwoven creating tassels along the front. Seamlessly woven when viewed from the front, this was an ancient hair extension! Other than the human hair, there is a camelid wool cord along the upper edge for tying this to the wearer's head to function as a wig. Size: 22" L x 7" W (55.9 cm x 17.8 cm)
