Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A stunning headdress pin, formed from 61% gold (equivalent to 14K+ gold), with a fan-shaped body decorated with intricate imagery in repousse. The body has a fretted top border which gradually tapers towards a rounded base that tapers dramatically to a slender pin. The top half displays a highly-stylized depiction of a bird standing on four legs flanked with a pair of radiating sun discs, and the bottom half shows two sinuous bird necks with slender beaks and frilled plumes that are presented among a field of raised stippling. Mounted against a wooden backing on a museum-quality display stand. Size: 3.6" W x 9.6" H (9.1 cm x 24.4 cm); 10.75" H (27.3 cm) on included custom stand; quality of gold: 61% (equivalent to 14K+).

  • Condition: Pin is unable to be removed from backing and therefore cannot be accurately weighed. Slight bending to overall form, with light crease marks, and softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and excellent. Light earthen deposits and nice patina throughout.
