Pre-Columbian, South Coast of Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 500 CE. A hand-built pottery stirrup vessel of globular form with a gently tapered upper body, a pair of conical spouts with a bridge handle spanning the gap, and a convex but stable base. Decorating the lustrous, highly burnished surfaces are polychrome representations of a creature known as the Anthropomorphic Mythical Being, or AMB, with large teeth, sharp claws, and expressive eyes.
