Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 to 500 CE. Nice group of five rounded ear/nose ornaments. Two are made from a greyish stone, one from whiteish ceramic, and two from white shell. Each has holes in either end for attaching it to the body. Two of them have some additional carved decoration. Piercing ears, noses, chins, and other body parts were important elements of social expression in pre-Columbian Mexico. Size: Largest piece measures 2" x 1-1/4" x 1/4". Provenance: Ex-private Mcdonald collection, Houston TX, acquired at local gallery or at auction between 1982 and 1994.   • Condition: All of the pieces are intact; each exhibits some signs of wear, but, aside from the ceramic piece, none has any cracks. That one has a non-structural crack across one side.
