Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A finely modeled, red slipped Nayarit male figure, nude but wearing a headband, shell-shaped earrings, a nose-ring, multiple armbands, and a painted white, multi-strand beaded necklace with an applied drop pendant, standing with feet apart, holding a musical instrument in his right hand, and placing his left hand over his open mouth as if using it to create an ocarina, flute-like sound with his body. He presents a characteristically elongated head with finely delineated facial details including large, coffee bean shaped eyes and a pronounced nose, and his body is comprised of a wide torso, broad shoulders, tubular arms, sturdy legs, and individually delineated fingers and toes. Perhaps most intriguing are the remaining striated tattoo marks adorning his chest, back, arms, and legs! A wonderful example from this shaft tomb culture of West Mexico! Size: 7" W x 12.125" H (17.8 cm x 30.8 cm)
