Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Protoclassic period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A wonderful pottery warrior figure seated upon a pair of conical legs and a third 'base' leg on the verso. The warrior holds a stocky club horizontally in his attenuated hands and wears barrel-shaped armor around his chest. The tall head features ovoid eyes with impressed pupils, a prominent nose with a crescent-shaped nose ring, tab-shaped ears, and a petite mouth, all beneath a wide-rimmed bicorn helmet. Vibrant areas of red and white slip accentuate the figure with repeating stripes on the limbs and helmet as well as dots around the neck that form several necklace strands. Size: 2.9" L x 4.9" W x 9.5" H (7.4 cm x 12.4 cm x 24.1 cm)
