Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. Nude except for her round earspools, this female figure sits with her hands resting upon her upraised knees, just below the breasts. Her somewhat flattened enlarged head as well as the shape of her eyes are reminiscent of the Chinesco style, a term created by early collectors inspired by these figure's quasi-Asian features. She presents an expressive visage with an open (perhaps chanting or singing) mouth and wide open eyes. All is covered in a rich tawny slip with nice mineral deposits across the surface. A wonderful example from this shaft tomb culture. Size: 3.75" W x 6.5" H (9.5 cm x 16.5 cm)
