Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hollow-built pottery female figure of a sizable form standing atop arched feet bearing delineated toes and nail beds. Presented in hues of marigold, coral, russet, and black, the woman presents with a nude upper body while wearing a knee-length skirt adorned with inversely corresponding polychrome stepped motifs. She holds her left arm out to her side while displaying the numerous scarification nodules on her shoulder, and she balances a tall vessel decorated with bullseye motifs on her right shoulder. Her enormous head exhibits protruding ovoid eyes, annular earrings with polychrome stripes, incised teeth, a prominent nose with an elaborate ornament, and a puffy hat with S-shaped patterns.   • Condition: Repaired from multiple large pieces, with chips and losses along some areas, and resurfacing with light adhesive residue and overpainting along other break lines. Nicks, chips, abrasions, and encrustations across most surfaces, with light fading to original pigment. Nice preservation to standing form.
