Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. Wonderfully decorated petite olla, finely painted in varying hues of red and cream using the negative resist technique mastered by the Nayarit artisans. Two diminutive four-legged creatures, perhaps dogs or foxes, hold onto the spout of the vessel, wagging their tails in hopes of drinking its contents. Size: 3-3/8" in diameter (8.6 cm) x 3"H (7.6 cm). Provenance: Ex-private Houston, TX collection acquired at auction or local gallery between 1982 and 1994.
