Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Ixtlan Del Rio type, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. An impressive pottery figure of a woman seated with crossed legs and striped skirt. Both hands are held to her abdomen, each finger of nearly identical length, placed below protruding breasts and white-painted bicep bangles. The expressive countenance is comprised of shallow, ovoid eyes, delineated teeth beneath a septum ring, and a plethora of earrings attached to each ear lobe. Vibrant hues of red and white create this intriguing figural composition. Size: 6.875" L x 7.625" W x 11.8" H (17.5 cm x 19.4 cm x 30 cm)

  • Condition: Professional repair and restoration to base and areas of lower body, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Fading to pigment, with light earthen deposits and abrasions, and small nicks in scattered areas, otherwise in nice condition. Great manganese deposits throughout.
