Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A lovely hand-built pottery figure of a nude woman shown kneeling with her posterior resting atop the heels of her feet. Positioned upright with arms akimbo, the figure is adorned with polychrome pigment creating intricate linear and dotted motifs across her body. Her enlarged head features coffee bean eyes, a slender nose, ears adorned with several rings, and a massive forehead. Figures like this surrounded the deceased within the shaft tombs beneath most ancient West Mexican dwellings. Size: 4.8" W x 8.3" H (12.2 cm x 21.1 cm)
