Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Ixtlan Del Rio type, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A charming example of love in ancient West Mexico, a seated male and female couple each with their own implements. Each figure is adorned with medallion-studded bicep bangles as well as 'beaded' necklaces painted in white around their red-hued necks. The woman on the right holds a petite, vertically-striped olla in her right hand while placing her left hand on the back of her male companion, and the man sits with a relaxed pose while brandishing a spike-ended club or scepter. Size: 5.5" L x 9.125" W x 9.7" H (14 cm x 23.2 cm x 24.6 cm)

  • Condition: Professional repair and restoration to both figures, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Repairs to feet of female figure, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Abrasions and fading to pigment, with scattered earthen deposits, and softening to finer details, otherwise in nice condition. Great figural form.
