Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Chinesco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A large hollow-cast seated pottery figure in the Chinesco style, dubbed as such by collectors for its eastern Asian facial features. The figure presents a typical angular face with a prominent nose, slit-shaped eyes, a thin mouth, a broad forehead with an ornately-painted headband, and sits upon outspread conical legs, shown with hands to a subtly-distended abdomen. The top of the head displays an oval-shaped hole used during the firing process. The surface boasts a beautiful polychrome finish of red, pale yellow, and light brown details atop a white-slipped ground. Size: 11" H (27.9 cm).
