Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery figure of the attractive Chinesco variety standing atop delineated legs with dramatically arched feet. The figure holds both arms tightly against the sides and bear red-orange stripes across the beige-hued body. The enlarged head features a pinched brow and coffee-bean-shaped eyes accentuated with additional red-orange stripes. Size: 3.1" W x 8.9" H (7.9 cm x 22.6 cm)

Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966

  • Condition: Restoration to front of left foot, with resurfacing and light overpainting along break lines. Minor abrasions to limbs, body, and face, with fading to original pigmentation, and light encrustations. Nice remains of original pigment across face and body.
