Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A wonderful pottery figural vessel in the form of a nude female shown from the waist up. Sitting upon a concave base, the figure presents with both slender arms resting on a distended, possibly pregnant abdomen, just beneath raised nipples. Her petite head exhibits sunken eyes, a huge, curved nose, and a slightly open mouth, all flanked by a pair of rectangular ears with layered earrings. The top of her head opens to the rim of the vessel, which is surrounded by an incised coiffure. Size: 5.5" L x 7.5" W x 10.6" H (14 cm x 19 cm x 26.9 cm)

  • Condition: Professionally repaired with restoration to base and repainting over break lines; all done very well and difficult to notice. Age-commensurate nicks and abrasions to surface. Otherwise, nice presentation with liberal remaining pigments and earthen deposits throughout.
