Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE; Michoacan region, ca. 1350 to 1521 CE. A fine selection of 2 hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessels from different ages in West Mexico. First is a tall, tiered Nayarit bottle shaped like a stylized gourd with a petite handle along the verso. Second is a tripod bowl with a scalloped rim, registers of stylized birds and snakes around the interior rim, and a corrugated basin surface meant for quickly removing the scales of edibles creatures like fish and snakes. Size (bottle): 4.7" W x 6.1" H (11.9 cm x 15.5 cm); (bowl): 6.5" W x 3.125" H (16.5 cm x 7.9 cm)

  • Condition: Bottle has handle reattached along verso as well as restoration to small areas of rim, and bowl has restoration to all 3 conical legs, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Both vessels have light abrasions and fading to pigment commensurate with age, with light encrustations, and small nicks to bodies and rims. Nice remains of original pigment across both vessels.
