Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Native American, Southwestern United States, Navajo, ca. mid-20th century CE. A beautiful woven rug of rectangular form bearing vibrant hues of light brown, peach, wheat, and jet black. Displayed on each side of the textile is a pair of cornstalks, one facing upwards and the other facing downwards, each with peach- and wheat-hued fronds and black leaves. A series of light and dark parallel columns separate the 2 vegetal forms. This rug was woven using a technique that is characteristic of older Navajo rugs known as section lines (or lazy lines). Instead of the typical and continuous back and forth weave- the weaver weaves in sections, then connects the woven warps together. This sectioning technique is what creates the diagonal joins visible in this rug. Cornstalks represent longevity, success, and life itself, so this is a fine motif to display in one's home! Size: 41.2" L x 29.75" W (104.6 cm x 75.6 cm)

Provenance: private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000
