Darryl Dean Begay (Native American, Navajo, b. 1974 CE) A beautiful tufa cast ring band inlaid with a Lone Mountain turquoise cabochon. The interior of the band is signed Darryl D. B. for contemporary artist Darryl Dean Begay. Begay began making jewelry in 1997, quickly becoming a prominent and award-winning Navajo artist specializing in tufa casting. He learned silversmithing and lapidary work from Raymond C. Yazzie and his uncle Bobby Begay and began to experiment with tufa stone casting. Tufa casting is a method of casting metal which involves using tufa stone, a volcanic stone, as a mold - the rock's porous texture is captured in the silver. Size of silver face: 0.9" L (2.3 cm); turquoise: 0.62" L x 0.47" W (1.6 cm x 1.2 cm); band opening: 0.8" Diameter (2 cm); US ring size: 9; silver quality: 93%; weight: 18.3 grams
