Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Navajo (Dine); New Mexico, Chimayo culture, ca. 20th to 21st century CE. A pair of woven textiles: a small Navajo rug with a tree of life pattern, and a large Chimayo poncho. The rug is woven with thick wool fibers, showing a bowl with a symbolic design of a cornstalk growing from a wedding basket, with birds perching on the leaves. The poncho has a classic geometric motif, and is woven with smaller yarn weight, creating a much more supple drape for wearing, a slit for the neck at the center. Size of poncho: 85" L x 41" W (215.9 cm x 104.1 cm); rug: 35.75" L x 24.5" W (90.8 cm x 62.2 cm)
