Native American, Southwestern & Northwestern United States, Puebloan & Inuit cultures, ca. Thule to Inuit culture, ca. 1200 to 1900s CE. A collection of Native American artifacts from various cultures, including shell necklaces, beads and a rawhide purse with a walrus ivory animal carving. The necklaces are strung in modern times using modern wires and a barrel clasp on one. The beads are tiny olive shells, black stones, and carved discs from chalky white conch or pink spondylus shells, and probably come from the southwestern United States. The carved animal amulet is made from walrus ivory and probably Inuit made. All is displayed in modern Riker cases. Size of large necklace: 28" L (71.1 cm); shell pendant bead: 0.5" L x 0.5" W (1.3 cm x 1.3 cm); case: 12.25" L x 8.25" W (31.1 cm x 21 cm)

  • Condition: Beads are strung in modern times on modern wires as necklaces, wearable. Displayed in modern Riker cases with several loose shell beads. Hide pouch is supple with staining and discoloration. Ivory carving has nicks and abrasions, but otherwise intact.
