Description:

Native American, Arkansas, North America, Quapaw culture, ca. 1600-1800 CE. The Quapaw were Native Americans who lived in four villages along the Mississippi River in what is now Arkansas in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The tribe was divided into two large moieties (divisions) - Earth and Sky - and twenty-one clans. Among the art forms they engaged in were lively ceramic forms such as this bottle. Beyond it's striking bichrome color scheme and handsome form, the piece comes to life thanks to the animal - perhaps amphibian - modeled with appliqués on the body of the piece. 6"T x 6"D x 5"W Ex-George Martin Collection, Georgia, USA All items in this auction have been legally acquired, are legal to sell, and guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
