Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Pueblo, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A beautiful, wearable necklace composed of petite heishi shells and lightly polished turquoise nuggets. The strands are capped with sterling silver cones and a hook clasp. Heishi (meaning "shell" in the Keresan language) beads are a hallmark of Pueblo craftsmanship, with roots going back over 2,000 years. Turquoise, a stone sacred to many Native American cultures, symbolizes health, protection, and connection to the sky and water. It has been mined and used in Southwestern jewelry for centuries, especially by the Navajo and Pueblo peoples. Size: 26.5" L (67.3 cm); largest nugget: 1" L x .5" W (2.5 cm x 1.3 cm)
