New World, Native American, found in Ripley County, Missouri, Middle Woodland Culture, ca. 100 BCE to 400 CE. A massive ceremonial chert knife, its surface partially smoothed and shaped. It was never meant to be used for cutting, but instead would have been a symbol of status for its owner. Size: 12.45" W x 2.25" H (31.6 cm x 5.7 cm)

Provenance: Estate of R. Pearson, Denver, Colorado, USA; Mr. Pearson collected from the third quarter of the 20th century until he passed away.
