Description:

Native American, Southwest, possibly Washoe tribe of northern Nevada, ca. 1920s CE. A beautiful lidded basket, hand-woven from natural fibers that are the color of golden honey and adorned with black and brown butterfly as well as geometric motifs. The lid fits nicely and has a loop atop for easy lifting. Washoe-woven fiber baskets were especially coveted as collectibles during the early 20th century. Some avid collectors even converted their parlors into basket rooms. The Washoe, howevr, simply used baskets like this example to hold food and other items. Size: 8.5" in diameter x 10.25" H (21.6 cm x 26 cm)

  • Condition: Very minor fraying in small area on rim. Some miniscule areas of missing fibers. Slight tearing to one side of handle commensurate with age and use. Otherwise, very nice with excellent remaining pigments.
