Native American, Western United States, ca. late-20th century CE. A vintage dance or ceremony cuff rattle made from deer hooves and a cloth band, intended to wear a dancer's wrist or perhaps ankle. The textile is black wool with a silk liner, and cotton cords threaded through the pierced tip of each hoof. Made for dances or powwow use and could be used today as intended! Size of band opening: 5" Diameter (12.7 cm); hooves: 2" L x 0.75" W (5.1 cm x 1.9 cm)
