Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Narino culture, ca. 1250 CE. A hand-built terracotta ocarina, modeled in an elegant seashell form, and meticulously decorated with a polychrome geometric design in hues of espresso, burgundy, and wheat, via the Narino artisans' signature negative resist technique. One narrow end has two perforations, and a large tone hole is visible on one side. The tone hole produces a wonderful sound when blown into like a flute. A fabulous Pre-Columbian musical wind instrument! Size: 5.625" L x 4.5" W (14.3 cm x 11.4 cm).

  • Condition: Age-commensurate surface wear and abrasions, fading to coloration, with small nicks to tone hole, ends, and peripheries, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits throughout. Old inventory sticker on one side. Ocarina produces a lovely sound when blown into tone hole like a flute.
