Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia to Ecuador (Carchi) region, Narino Highlands, ca. 1250 CE. A beautiful hand-built pottery bowl with a concave foot, thick walls, a deep interior cavity, and a rolled rim. The exterior displays a decorative register of linear and triangular forms, perhaps representing avian-style wings. The inside of the vessel exhibits wonderful enclosed diamond-shaped geometric motifs with two simplistic standing cranes separated by thick crossing bands - all in vibrant red, black, and creamy-yellow hues via the Narino artisans' signature negative resist technique. Size: 8" Diameter (20.3 cm).
