Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia/Ecuador border, Narino/Capuli Complex, ca. 850 to 1500 CE. A hand-built and highly-burnished burial urn displaying lovely black-on-red negative resist painted decorations. The human effigy jar is comprised of a flat base, a wide ovoid body with a tapered neck, a tall flared rim, and a pair of "ears" which double as suspension handles. Stylized features such as coffee-bean-shaped eyes and a slender nose comprise the minimalist visage with a petite mouth situated just above the neck. Although they have faded gracefully over the years, one may decipher zigzag, linear, and crosshatch patterns upon close examination. Size: 7.5" W x 10.125" H (19 cm x 25.7 cm).
