Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Highland Narino region, Tuza cultural complex, Narino culture, ca. 1250 to 1500 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl with a squat foot and a hemispherical basin bearing thick walls. Highly burnished and lustrous, the beige-hued basin surface is decorated with a dense, dark-brown net motif that perhaps has connotations of fishing or water. The exterior surfaces are decorated with brick-red pigment save for along the rim, and the underside of the foot exhibits dark brown hues. Size: 7.2" Diameter x 3.5" H (18.3 cm x 8.9 cm)

  • Condition: Stabilization to one fissure stemming from rim, with resurfacing and overpainting along adhesive residue. Minor nicks and abrasions, with a second stable hairline fissure stemming from rim, light fading to pigment within basin, and darkening and encrustations to exterior surfaces. Nice preservation to net motif within basin. Old inventory label beneath foot.
