Description:

Pre-Columbian, Border Ecuador / Columbia, Narino culture, ca. 1250-1500 CE. The Narino peoples included images of hunting, fishing and herding animals on their pottery. One of the central beliefs of the Pre-Columbians in South America was that of duality, of opposites in nature, such as sun and moon, male and female, and night and day. This bowl includes an earth animal, the deer, surrounded by sky animals, the birds in flight in the surrounding registers - thus representing opposite realms - painted in red on cream ground. ~7-1/2"D x ~4"T Ex-George Martin Collection, Georgia, USA All items in this auction are legal to buy/sell under U.S. statute covering cultural patrimony per United States Code 2600, CHAPTER 14 -- CONVENTION ON CULTURAL PROPERTY, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
