Description:

Pre-Columbian, Maya/Toltec, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. A delicate and beautiful small shell necklace, with three matched pairs of bell-shaped shells, one on each side and one hanging from the bottom of the necklace. Three green round shells sit between the two bell-shaped ones at the center; otherwise, the shells are creamy whites and browns. Exhibited at New Orleans Museum of Art. Size of necklace: 14" L (35.6 cm); size of frame: 8" W x 12.2" H (20.3 cm x 31 cm).

Provenance: Ex-James Bernard Byrnes estate. Mr. Byrnes was the first curator of LACMA
