Description:

Roman, late Imperial to early Byzantine period, ca. 3rd to 5th century CE. A gorgeous circular bracelet composed of a central ring of opaque, lime green trail glass enclosed by two similar bands of spiraled, blue-and-white glass canes. The green interior would have been laid atop a slanted conical surface to establish the overall form, and then the spiralized canes would have been applied to the top and bottom once the center had solidified enough to maintain its shape. A beautiful example of fashionable glasswork! Size of exterior: 3.5" Diameter (8.9 cm); of interior: 2.6" Diameter (6.6 cm)

Exhibited in "Ancient Glass: Selections from the Richard Brockway Collection" at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University, Salem from March 10 to May 19, 2007 and "Glass of the Ancient World" at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, Florida from October 11 to December 28, 2008.
