Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Ibarra Area (Central Highlands), ca. 500 to 1500 CE. A handsome dark greenstone axe, of ceremonial form rather than made for utilitarian purposes. The stone is beautiful, with lighter bands through its face. The form includes a thick base with slightly pointed edges and a broad, rounded blade. Size: 5.2" W x 4.95" H (13.2 cm x 12.6 cm)
