Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 1070 to 30 BCE. A hand-made pottery jar flask with a simplified face on the front, made by applied and pinched clay. Despite the basic features, the face represents the deity, Bes, who was a household protector, particularly the women and children. Utilitarian vessels with Bes's face were used in domestic settings, and this tiny jar may have been used for storage of ointments or cosmetics. Size: 1.25" Diameter x 2.25" H (3.2 cm x 5.7 cm)
