Ancient Near East, Cyprus, late Cypriot I, ca. 1600 to 1050 BCE. A delicate "bilbil" juglet with a bulbous, apple-shaped body, a slender cylindrical neck, a strap handle, and a flared rim. A molded double line wraps around the neck where it meets the handle. This type of vessel is also known as a ring base vessel and replicates an opium poppy. Ceramic items manufactured in Cyprus were exported in huge numbers to Egypt and the Holy Land, and some examples of this type have been found in Egypt containing opium grown in Cyprus.
