Mexico, ca. 19th century. A fine 19th century retablo painting on tin, depicting "La Piedad" also called "La Lamentacion." A classic rendition of la Piedad (Pieta for all you Italian Renaissance lovers out there) representing a crucified Christ in the arms of the Madonna with symbols of the passion in the foreground and background. Size: 10.375" W x 13.25" H (26.4 cm x 33.7 cm)

This fine retablo was from the collection of Fernando Juarez Frida, author of Retablos Populares Mexicanos and exhibited at the Jalisco Regional Museum in 1978.

Provenance: private Oglesby, Illinois, USA collection, acquired in the 1990s from various Western US auction galleries
