Description:

Northern Africa, Morocco, Kem Kem Red Beds, early Cretaceous, ca. 112 to 97 million years ago. This fantastic Spinosaurus (Spinosaurus aegyptiacus) toe claw is in impeccable preservation as well as being complete from the intact proximal end down to the shark tip. The detail of the blood grooves and the surface condition is in superb condition. This claw lacks the typical encrustation, extreme weathering and poor quality repair work that is usually encountered. The form and fineness of the tip and edges are outstanding and seldom seen on this level. Size: 2" L x 0.8" W (5.1 cm x 2 cm)

The Spinosaurus ("spine lizard") was a theropod, first documented in Egypt in 1912, that is among the largest of all known carnivorous dinosaurs - it may have been larger than Tyrannosaurus and Gigantosaurus. Research from 2014 indicates that they could reach lengths greater than 15 m (49 ft). Keep in mind when looking at this fossilized claw that in life it would have been much larger - this is just the bone, but the rest of the claw was made up of keratin (like your fingernails).
