Description:

Pre-Columbian, north coast of Peru, Mochica/ Moche culture, 100 BCE to 100CE. Extremely rare gilded silver lizard, most likely a adornment of a Royal Standard. Realistic representation with long tail, triangular pattern along back, clearly delineated almond-shaped eye and long, thin mouth. The Moche had a "Lizard" clan and it is quite feasible this could have been used as part of a standard. Size: 4.5" L x .75" W (11.4 cm x 1.9 cm); 6.25" H (15.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950s to 1960s
