**Originally Listed At $600**

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 100 to 500 CE. A hand-carved wooden poporo container for holding lime powder meant to enhance the hallucinogenic properties during the consumption of coca. The cylindrical, flat-bottomed vessel presents with tall walls, a circular rim with an indented lip meant to hold a lid, and a carved-out mouth leading to the hollow interior. The form of the container exhibits a stylized anthropomorphic figure in a seated position with arms meeting atop the abdomen and a stocky neck supporting a bulbous head. The ovoid eyes are inlaid shell fragments which themselves are inlaid with miniscule fragments of jet to create the pupils. Size: 1.125" W x 2.3" H (2.9 cm x 5.8 cm).
