Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche to Chimu culture, ca. 800 to 1300 CE. A collection of 4 copper pincers or tweezers each with a pair of coiled spirals to the sides. Tweezers like this example were used by both men and women as depilatory tools to pull hairs off the face and other regions of the body. Remains of cotton fibers are still embedded in between the pincers on two, perhaps they were wrapped in the textiles as part of a funerary offering for the afterlife. Size of largest: 2.75" L x 2.5" W (7 cm x 6.4 cm); case: 12.25" L x 8.25" W (31.1 cm x 21 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harmer collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
