Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 300 to 500 CE. A pair of artifacts from the Moche culture of Northern Peru. First is a terracotta redware standing figure with a slightly slanted but stable base, short legs, delineated genitalia, bent arms resting on a rotund midsection, thin lips, a prominent nose, almond-shaped eyes, perforated ears, and a four-tiered helmet. Second is a textile avian figure, made from tightly-woven natural or camelid fibers in hues of beige and black, on a cream background within a white border; the textile is sitting within a modern wooden frame with a protective glass panel. Size of figure: 5.375" H (13.7 cm); size of textile: 3.125" L (7.9 cm); size of frame: 6.25" W x 5" H (15.9 cm x 12.7 cm).

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
